Willow Bend Receives Grants for 2008-2009
Willow Bend recently received two new grants to support our environmental education programs. Willow Bend received a $17,600 grant for general operating purposes. This funding is provided by BBB Revenues from the City of Flagstaff and Flagstaff Cultural Partners. Willow Bend also received $5,775 from the Urban and Community Forestry Financial Assistance Program administered through the State of Arizona Forestry Division - Urban & Community Forestry, and the USDA Forest Service. This grant will support Willow Bend's classroom and community programs that teach about the importance of urban forests in Flagstaff.
Rainwater harvesting system
Willow Bend received a $3000 grant from Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) to install a rainwater harvesting system for our Three Sisters native edibles garden. This is a service-learning project with Flagstaff High Schools’ Future Farmers of America club.
Photovoltaic project
Prometheus Systems, a local sustainable energy company, has generously donated seven photo voltaic panels and the expertise to install a grid-tied photovoltaic system this spring at Willow Bend. This system will support 100 percent of Willow Bend’s energy needs. Prometheus Systems is offering a series of hands-on, do-it-yourself photovoltaics workshops about how to install your own system — check our calendar for details.
