Beale Wagon Road Overnight Guided Trip

The eagerly awaited Beale Wagon Road Historic Trail Guided Trip is back for its third year!
📅 When: Saturday, May 17th – Sunday, May 18th, 2025
📍 Where: Northern Arizona’s stunning Williams Ranger District
Join us for a two-day adventure led by Willow Bend Environmental Education Center’s current and past board members: Eric Souders, who brings history to life as Lieutenant Beale (with camels in tow!), and Neil Weintraub, former South Kaibab Zone archaeologist.
This unique fundraising event retraces the 1857-1859 footsteps of Lieutenant Edward Beale and his crew as they built the first federally constructed wagon road in the U.S.
The Beale Wagon Road trip is permitted by the Kaibab National Forest.
🐪 Trip Highlights:
Saturday, May 17th
-Hike 2 miles along the best-preserved sections of the Beale Wagon Road with Eric, Neil, and camels.
-Explore Elk Springs and learn about forest restoration efforts.
-Enjoy a delicious Dutch oven dinner and a fascinating history presentation.
-Overnight stay at the Spring Valley Cabin Bunkhouse.
Sunday, May 18th
-Breakfast and an interpretive hike to Laws Spring.
-Return to Flagstaff after Laws Spring hike.
