*About the The Flagstaff Kestrel Project (FKP): The FHP is integrating community participation and conservation to spread awareness of ecological issues and provide outdoor experiences for all kinds of people. The American kestrel is North America’s smallest and most colorful bird of prey. Kestrel populations have declined rapidly in the last 60 years, causing cascading ecological aftereffects. FKP hopes to help local kestrel populations while providing environmental education to Flagstaff’s community. In fall 2019, we will install nesting boxes for American kestrels around Flagstaff and the surrounding area, which we will monitor in spring and summer 2020. Never seen a kestrel? Want to learn more about local bird conservation? Contact Maya (mjr486@nau.edu, 508-471-7555) to find out how you can get involved in FKP.
