Adult Workshop: Rio Wetlands Birding Tour

Come learn about the exciting world of birding in this hands-on workshop! The workshop will cover basic birding skills using sight, sounds, behavior and habitat. During the first part of the workshop participants will go over some of the basics of bird watching: how to correctly use binoculars, spotting scopes, field guides and where to find the best birding spots. We will talk about which birds are singing which songs and why. We will discuss bird behavior and GISS (General Impression of Size and Shape).

These simple keys to bird identification and behavior will provide you with the tools to open up the avian world that surrounds us everyday and everywhere. During the second part of the workshop, participants will go out into the field (Rio Wetlands) with local birding expert, Tim Weber and apply what they have learned.

Tim Weber has more than 20 years of birding experience. Most recently, Tim has led bird watching tours at the Verde Valley Bird and Nature Festival and led bird walks as a volunteer for the Arboretum at Flagstaff and the Audubon Society. He is also owner/operator of Birding Northern Arizona which provides guided birding tours in Sedona and Verde Valley.

Workshop is recommended for adults and children 10 years and older.

Cost: $15/general public, $10/Willow Bend and members.
